G for Garden

My precious

Today, let’s forget the public gardens and parks and look at our private spaces. The little beautiful things touched by our green thumbs for various reasons.

From tulsi to aloe vera.

Herbs for the kitchen to memories of an agrarian past.

Saplings bought from a holiday in the Himalaya.

The garden in your Mumbai sized balcony or window.

The unwatered ones that died on you.

Mumbai style

Or what grew from the seeds deposited by that crow you befriended when you started to feed it during the lockdown.

Today, we celebrate the personal garden and the social networking of seed and sapling sharers that support it. If you are part of an urban gardening group, let me know its name, they need a shoutout.

The plant that used to be found outside barber shops in the last century

The plant in the battery box is what you used to see outside barber shops and known for its antiseptic properties. They are rarely seen today.

The common plant in low-lying marshy settlements in the city
When you have no balcony
The tulsi has been replaced by the aloe vera in many homes
